"Person of Interest" season 5 will make fans intrigued when the show returns with one budding romance between Root and Shaw. The cast and crew teased on what fans should expect in the upcoming season during the 2015 New York Comic Con.

Season 5 premiere episode will pick up from where the series stopped last time, commencing seconds after season four finale, according to Entertainment Weekly. The Machine story will set off the season on the verge of death. During the interview at the NYCC 2015, the panel said that characters "aren't sure if it has a heartbeat or not" and "not quite sure how its brain is working."

The season premiere is action-loaded, big flashbacks, and Finch is going through a period of self-reflection, turmoil, and heartbreak.

Actor Michael Emerson said, "Mr. Finch is in kinda of a bad place. All the years he's been programming the machine, he's been trying to keep that relationship non-personal, cool, professional. And yet, we see all this parental passion and caring."

Emerson added that the relationship between a human and intelligent machine will be something that everybody will have to negotiate someday.

In addition to the Machine's pending brush with death, season 5 will focus on the germinating romance between Root and Shaw, who has been MIA in the series, io9 reported. These two characters assured fans that there will be much to expect with the relationship, and urged the crowd to let "your mind run rampant."

Actor Amy Acker who plays Root said, "Root will be very happy."

Sarah Shahi, playing Shaw added, "Amy and I both have bruises-and it's not from any of the fight scenes."

Pointing out that her first job was on Showtime's "The L Word," Shahi acknowledged that the role allowed her to represent characters that had been underrepresented on TV. When she learned about the direction the Shaw/Root relationship was taking, she was a bit surprised in the first place, but she sounded as if she felt honored to continue representing LGBT characters.

Shahi said, "It's incredibly important for [the LGBT community] to have role models-to have someone on TV they can empathize and emulate and find strength in. I'm so happy to work with this lovely lady, and I want to thank [the writers] for the storytelling."

"Person of Interest" season 5 is scheduled to premiere sometime next year on CBS.
