"Extant" season 3 has been officially cancelled by CBS after two seasons. After months of speculations, multiple reports confirmed that season 3 is not happening.

According to Variety, CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said that the cancellation was a mutual decision among the network, the show's producers and Halle Berry. He said that they were all proud of the show's accomplishments, adding that it was a huge success on Amazon Prime Video.

Geller also congratulated Berry for her commitment and support for the series. He shared that he is also looking forward to more projects with her in the future.

On the other hand, Berry explained that ending the story on season 2 felt natural. She mentioned that she felt happy with her first experience into episodic television, adding that she looked forward to producing more shows for CBS under her production, 606 Films.

CBS reportedly wanted Berry to produce a legal drama series written by "Good Wife's" Steven Lichtman titled, "Legalese."

According to Rama Screen, "Extant" was the lowest rated of the three CBS original dramas. It received an average of 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, with a 6.35 million total viewers.

The publication pointed out that one of the main reasons for the decline in interest of the viewers was the show's sudden shift from sci-fi to an action packed drama.

CBS also recently cancelled "Under the Dome" after three seasons. The Stephen King inspired drama had a huge following when it first premiered in 2013 where it averaged a 2.67 rating. Unfortunately, the interest dwindled and season 2 and 3 only received a 1.63 and 0.97 rating.
