"Friday the 13th" franchise is making a grand return to the video game scene with the help of an independent studio via Kickstarter campaign.

Game development studios Gun Media and Illfonic launched a Kickstarter campaign on Thursday to fund the video game, which has been officially endorsed by "Friday the 13th" franchise creator Sean Cunningham. T

he company's campaign, with asking money of $700,000, assures that it will stay true to the heart of the slasher franchise, according to Gamespot. It will still include all the violence, gore and nudity fans of the "Friday the 13th" franchise have come to expect.

The two studios decided not to partner with a traditional game publisher because it would definitely try to limit these aspects of the game to achieve a "T for Teen" rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) instead of the "Mature" rating the developers are aiming for, CNET reported.

"Friday the 13th: The Game" takes place in a "semi-open world" of Camp Crystal Lake from the film series. In this way, it will revitalize the classic horror fan's dream and the golden era of slasher Jason Voorhees, and putting players at the controls of each horrific, blood-splattered moment.

The game is an asymmetrical multiplayer experience, where one player takes control of Jason while seven other players assume the role of camp counselors attempting to survive the night either by escaping or managing to kill the mass murderer. If the campaign receives enough money, the developers plan to build out a single player experience as well.

"Friday the 13th: The Game" will be available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It is tentatively scheduled to launch in October 2016.
