The British play "An Inspector Calls" will be adapted by Pegasus Motion Pictures into a Chinese film starring Hong Kong actor Louis Koo.

Pegasus Motion Pictures CEO John Chong told the Hollywood Reporter that the film will hit theaters in China and Hong Kong in Feb. 2015 in time for the Chinese New Year.

"Much of the story is told in flashbacks, which are between the real and the surreal," Chong said.

With an $8-million budget, "An Inspector Calls" film adaptation is currently in pre-production.

Written by J. B. Priestley in mid-1940s, the play was revived by English director Stephen Daldry in the 1990s before it toured Britain from 2011 to 2012.

Koo will play the titular inspector in the Chinese film adaptation of the play alongside Eric Tsang, Teresa Mo, Chrissie Chau and Pegasus Motion Pictures chairman Raymond Wong. The film will be co-directed "Ip Man: The Final Fight" director Herman Yau.

Koo stars in four of the five entries of Hong Kong to the 57th Asia Pacific Film Festival, which will be held in Phattaya, Thailand, from Dec. 15 to 17, Yahoo reported.

Starring in Hong Kong films "Aberdeen," "Out of Inferno," "The White Storm" and "Overheard 3," Koo has a big chance to win Best Actor at the film festival.

In 2001, Koo won the Best Actor award from Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) and went on to become one of the major actors in Hong Kong.

In 2006, he starred in Benny Chan's "Robin B Hood" opposite Jackie Chan, and his film "Election 2" was screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Koo also starred in another Benny Chan film in 2008 titled "Connected," opposite Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu. The film was a remake of the 2004 Hollywood film "Cellular" starring Kim Basinger, Chris Evans, Jason Statham and William H. Macy.

Currently, Koo is filming the 2015 film adaptation of the Hong Kong drama series "Triumph in the Skies."
