Rafael Nadal can hardly wait for 2015 to end and gain a new start in 2016.

The Spaniard has had one of his most challenging years and his sudden drop in form has led many critics to doubt his abilities. One of them was Brazilian Gustavo Kuerten who said Nadal is "unlikely to win a Grand Slam again."

There is constructive criticism and there is harsh criticism, and Nadal has received both. In Tennis World USA, the former World no.1 became emotional with his reaction to what he feels as disrespectful opinions.

"Am I 'dead?' I don't know If I'm already done, but I'm not very concerned about it," Nadal said. "I go on my way, at the end these are all opinions and everyone is entitled to have his own opinion. Somebody is wrong, others says right things. It's part of life in general. Everyone has opinions and especially when you're on TV. They all are valid, but always when come with respect. And sometimes that lacked"

He added:  "When you try everything, you can't feel obliged to do more. Sometimes I say that all the opinions are valid if they're respectful."

Along the way, Nadal did receive some advice from actual sympathizers like John McEnroe. The American tennis legend suggested he change his coach after his Wimbledon downfall.

One of the names floated was fellow Spaniard Carlos Moya. Nadal's response seemed vague.

"I've a very good relationship with Carlos and his opinions are and will be always valid. I don't know what will happen in the future. Things are this way and I'm happy. Nowadays I believe in what I have and I continue with what I have. I believe that me and my group are doing the things well."

Rafa plans to have a strong comeback in 2016, but he if his staunchest critics are correct and he is done, he has nothing to be ashamed of.

"It can't be a disappointement after having won 14. If my career finishes today, it would be a career that I have ever dreamed of. It still allows me to keep enjoying tennis, I enjoy it right now."
