Based in Hong Kong, Shanghai Tang is known for its bright-colored clothing designs inspired by Chinese traditional fitted long dress called cheongsam.

Showcased in the celebratory fashion show are women's wear and custom-made collections from Imperial Tailoring designed under the direction of Shanghai Tang creative head Raffaele Borriello.

Among the supermodels who displayed the garments on the runway were Liu Wen, Bonnie Chen and Zhao Lei.

As part of the recently concluded nine-day season of Shanghai Fashion Week (SFW), Academy Award-winning Hollywood star Nicole Kidman and Taiwanese actress Lin Chiling attended the star-studded catwalk event.

According to Shanghai Tang executive chairman Raphael le Masne de Chermont, Kidman is "a big fan of the brand."

"I met her at the last Shanghai movie festival in May and we just discussed it," le Masne de Chermont said of the "Before I Go to Sleep" actress who wore a black cheongsam-inspired Shanghai Tang gown from the Imperial Clothing line during the event, Senatus reported.

Also part of Shanghai Tang's 20th anniversary celebration was the project titled "China Fashion Chic," which is intended to nurture the very best emerging designers in China and inject new energy into the local fashion scene.

The "China Fashion Chic" project chose to exhibit Armele Barbier's collection of men's wear ensembles and a capsule line by young Chinese designers, Ma Masha and Wang Pei Yi.

"They have to be Chinese. They must have experience of doing catwalk shows, preferably in the West, and they have to design the capsule, as per Shanghai Tang DNA, which is 'Modern Chinese Chic,'" le Masne de Chermont said of Barbier, Ma and Wang.

Held on Oct. 22 at the Okura Hotel, the Shanghai Tang's showcase served as the highlight of SFW starting with the series of initiatives under the China Fashion Chic umbrella. SFW featured several lines including Decoster, Haotian Wen, Ji Cheng, Oasis and We Couture.
