Picturesque scenery in what residents dub as the "Tunnel of Love" in Nanjing has escaped possible ruin as surrounding trees that give the area its fairytale-like atmosphere evaded uprooting.
The Jiangning District's railway tunnel seemed to have captivated more couples from all over China after news broke that the Yuntaishan Pyrites, the company in charge of the railway, had announced that they no longer wish to remove the trees surrounding the tunnel.
Although it is not considered as an official tourist spot, the area has been considered by locals as the "Tunnel of Love," as thousands of couples gather there to take pictures and make wishes in the fairytale-like scenery provided by the green, leafy trees arched over the railway line.
According to an employee from the company in charge of supervising the railway line, visitors posing and taking pictures along the railway line presented threats to themselves, the train and its passengers as they block the train's way.
"We have warning signs asking people to keep away. But they choose to ignore them," company staff member Chen stated, adding that the issue nearly compelled the company to remove the problem "at its roots."
Unwilling to let go of the rapidly becoming famous tourist spot, several Chinese netizens suggested an alternative so that the company may continue its operations while letting visitors enjoy the beautiful view.
One netizen under the pseudonym Feitianyixian suggested that authorities should assign a timetable indicating the schedule when tourists can be allowed to enjoy the scenic spot without interfering with operations.
After deliberations, the company finally agreed to permit visitors to enter the "Tunnel of Love" at specified times and even enhanced sanitation in the area.
