The Detroit Pistons waived veteran small forward Danny Granger after only three months with the team, according to Sports Illustrated. Granger will now have to undergo a one-month treatment to rehabilitate a plantar fasciitis injury.
Yahoo Sports noted that as soon as his foot injury is completely healed, the 32-year-old ten-year veteran is intending to resume his career and work out with any team who is interested in his services.
The 2009 NBA Most Improved Player played for the Miami Heat last season where he averaged 6.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 20.4 minutes per game. He appeared in 30 games, starting six, for Coach Erik Spoelstra's squad.
He was traded to the Phoenix Suns in February of this year in a deal that also included the New Orleans Pelicans, but he never suited up for Coach Jeff Hornacek because of his recurring knee problems.
Granger was then traded to the Pistons last July in the controversial transaction involving Marcus Morris and Reggie Bullock.
The one-time NBA All-Star was the former main man of Larry Bird in the Indiana Pacers' lineup, as he averaged as high as 25.8 ppg in leading the then young Pacers team for five years.
His career went downhill during the 2012-2013 season when he was able to play only five games for Indiana due to patellar tendinosis. He went from averaging 18.7 ppg the previous season to only 5.4 then 8.3 in 2013-2014 as he continued to battle knee issues. Granger never averaged double figures in scoring since then.
As of the moment, there are no reports of any NBA team interested in acquiring his services in the future.
