After fighting its way to the top of China's weekend box office last week, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" takes another $25 million, making it the world's second-highest grossing film in only 10 days.
During its first full week after release, the reboot of the popular Hollywood cartoon ended up in second place after the horror-suspense movie "Annabelle" overtook it in the box-office hit list.
In total, the "TMNT" garnered an estimated total sales of $34.9 million after racking up 236,675 screenings and more than 4.1 million admissions.
The film, shown in 3D in China, is proof of the country's enduring love for the three-dimensional version of the flick even as those from the West begin to lose interest.
The movie's success in the Asian country has also been attributed to the benefit of having its stars Megan Fox and William Fichtner visit China to promote it.
Just behind "TMNT" in China's box-office list is martial arts film "Kung Fu Jungle" starring Wang Baoqiang, Charlie Yeung, Donnie Yen, and Michelle Bai. The movie that showcased Teddy Chan's genius earned $8.75 million from 1.49 million viewers in 127,730 screenings.
"TMNT" also beat Fox's "The Maze Runner" in a tight race for second place in China. "The Maze Runner" is a film adaptation of a bestselling book and stars Dylan O'Brien and Ki Hong Lee. During its full week in Chinese theaters, it grossed a total of $8.03 million.
Other movies trailing the Chinese box-office list are Luc Besson's science-fiction thriller "Lucy" starring Scarlett Johansson and "For the Love of Money" starring Korean superstar Rain and Crystal Liu.
Also securing a spot in the top 10 are Liu Ye and Vincent Zhao's "The Boundary" and Marvel's 3D film "Guardians of the Galaxy."
