In addition to film screenings, a number of events are lined up for the festival, which is considered the biggest Chinese film festival in Europe and among the most influential Chinese film showcase held abroad.

"Many British filmmakers are taking significant roles in scriptwriting, producting, directing, visual effects and post-productions," said Jia Zhendan, the festival's chairman, during the opening ceremony held in Logan Hall.

"Therefore, the Chinese new-generation filmmakers should cooperate with the British film industry and learn from their experience, as well as work together with them in order to build a new pattern for the world's films," he continued.

The Europe China Image Film Festival was inaugurated in 2009 as a means for the cultural exchange between China and the U.K.

The festival has garnered the support of China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) and the Chinese embassy's cultural affairs office.

The film fest has also received recognition from the U.K.'s Cultural Affairs Bureau and the British Council, as well as several other agencies, associations and institutions.

After the opening ceremony for this year's events, the film "One Day," about the importance of love and care during a child's formative years, was screened.
