South Korean actress Son Ye-jin bagged the Best Lead Actress award for starring in the action-comedy-historical film "Pirates: Bandits at the Sea" at the 51st Grand Bell Awards (Dae Jong Film Awards) on Friday.
Actor Choi Min-sik, on the other hand, won the Best Actor award for the film "The Admiral: Roaring Currents." The film directed by Kim Han-min was also recognized for several awards such as Best Picture and Best Technical, and was recorded as most-watched movie in South Korea.
Park Yu-chun of the popular K-pop boy group JYJ was named Best New Actor for the thriller film "Haemoo."
Other winners were Kim Sung-hoon as Best Director for "A Hard Day," Yang Woo-seok and Yoon Hyun-ho for Best Screenplay for "The Attorney," Yoo Hae-jin as Best Supporting Actress for "Pirates: Bandits at Sea," Park Yoochun as Best New Actor for "Sea Fog," and Im Ji-yeon as Best New Actress for "Obsessed."
Aside from Best Screenplay, Yang Woo-seok also won Best New Director for "The Attorney."
Other awardees were: Kim Tae-sung ("A Hard Day") for Best Cinematography, Kim Kyung-seok ("A Hard Day") for Best Lighting, Shin Min-kyung ("God's Play") for Best Editing, Mowg ("Miss Granny") for Best Music, Jo Sang-kyung ("Kundo: Age of the Rampant") for Best Costume, Jo Hwa-sung ("Fatal Encounter") for Best Art Direction, Kang Tae-kyun and Yoon Dae-won ("Roaring Currents") for Best Technicals, and Kim Han-min ("Roaring Currents") for Best Planning.
Director Jung Jin-woo was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Advancement of Cinema, while artists Im Shi-wan, Kim Woo-bin and Honey Lee were hailed for the popularity award.
