"Avatar" director James Cameron revealed more details about the 2009 blockbuster hit's upcoming sequels.
The "Avatar" director told entertainment website Empire that viewers "will s--t" themselves when Avatar 2, 3 and 4 come out in the following years. Cameron also said that the plots of the sequels are "bitchin."
Cameron revealed that the sequels' frame-per-second-rate, which affects fluidity of motion films, is now 48 frames-per-second, double compared to traditional film and TV framerates of 24, 25 or 30.
Cameron said that he will be utilizing a more mature system that can handle 48 frames-per-second in making the sequels.
The hit movie's original stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana have already signed for all the Avatar sequels lined up. The sequels are planned to be shot in New Zealand, where the famous "Lord of the Rings" trilogy was also shot.
Writers Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, Shane Salerno and Rick Jaffa are already collaborating in producing the sequels' screenplays which they plan to release in 2016, 2017 and 2018, respectively.
Talking about the sequels' "bitchin" plots, Cameron said that he initially thought of taking the story to another world, but decided that Pandora, the setting of the movie, will suffice for the sequels.
Cameron added that the plots may feature underwater scenes or water-related story arcs. The director also dismissed the rumors that the first sequel will only take place underwater; instead, Cameron said that all three sequels will show underwater scenes.
According to Box Office Mojo, "Avatar" generated a worldwide gross of $2,787,965,087.
