Christopher Nolan's science-fiction epic "Interstellar" achieves the $100-million mark as it continues to rule China's box office charts even after the release of local film "Women Who Flirt."
Chinese moviegoers seem to prefer Nolan's epic film about astronauts going on a journey to find a new home rather than Pang Ho-Cheung's domestic romantic-comedy about the art of flirting--the former remains on top of China's box office chart by the end of November.
According to reports, "Interstellar" earned another 144 million yuan ($23.25 million), bringing its total sales to 671 million yuan ($108.69 million) from 3.9 million admissions for 19 days after its initial release in the country.
Tailing the sci-fi epic is a domestic film from Pang Ho-Cheung which has a plot that revolves around a girl's quest to re-learn the art of flirting to get the man of her dreams. The film earned 82 million yuan ($13.05 million) from 2.37 million admissions during its opening weekend.
In third place at China's box office is Roy Chow's film about Chinese martial artist hero Wong Fei-hung in the "Rise of the Legend" with 76 million yuan over the weekend, totaling to 157.9 million yuan since its release.
DreamWorks Animation's spinoff film "Penguins of Madagascar" came in fourth place, taking home 51 million yuan for the week and bringing its total sales in China to 199 million yuan over 17 days.
Completing the Chinese box office top five is Sony Pictures Entertainment's "Fury," which stars Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, that garnered a total of 93.2 million yuan ($15 million) by Nov. 30 despite an online screener leak after a cyberattack on the film production firm.
