The Houston Rockets situation blew up faster than the Sacramento Kings did, and coach Kevin McHale was the casualty.
It's most likely he won't be the only one.
According to the The Lowe Post, the podcast hosted by Zach Lowe now on ESPN after Grantland shut down, Dwight Howard might be considered on the deadline.
This was brought up by ESPN Insider David Thorpe, the guest on the show when they dissected the situation in Houston. At around the 26:10 mark, they discuss Dwight Howard.
They noted how D12 needs to "buy in" and how Harden has "taken all the oxygen." Howard is a center who is quick and athletic, he rounds back and forth and as Thorpe said, "you have to feed him."
The ominous words came near the 30 minute mark where Thorpe said that Howard had "more of a relationship (with McHale) than Harden" and he admonished Lowe to "watch out and observe" that if Howard has not bought in with the new system." On the trade deadline, "the last thing Morey wants is a disconnect between his two best players and one of them to have a disconnect with the current coach."
Morey would not hesitate to pull the trigger on a trade if that's the case. Howard has a player option on the last year of his contract, pegged at $ 23.2 million and he might exercise that if he does not play at peak level.
If the Rockets need to relieve themselves of another possible "Dwightmare" they can trade Howard rather than take a risk and watch him leave like the Lakers did. Sports On Earth mentioned that if Tyson Chandler, an older, less athletic and more injury riddled version of Howard still got a good deal at 32 years old, Howard can easily command much higher.
The Dallas Mavericks would be a suitor for him if he becomes a free agent and he Howard would consider signing there since Chandler Parsons, who recruited him to Houston is there along with Deron Williams, with whom Dwight wanted to play with in the Nets.
For Houston, they would probably trade him rather than see him walk, but the receiving team would take a risk (Dwightmare!).
