Despite of having the same hardware specifications as Windows 10 PC, the performance of Valvce's OS Machines is lagging far behind, especially when playing games that are graphically demanding. Geekbench 3 was used as the benchmark when running the first test on the Steam Machine, and it was observed that the Steam Machine was below par with Windows 10 PC.

Games like "Middle Earth," "Metro," "Shadow of Mordor" and "Last Light Redux" were played on both versions. As a trial in the second test, it was still observed that the SteamOS performed within a range of 21 to 58 frames fewer per second, depending upon graphical settings.

On running the HD resolution games on the hardware, a significant difference in OS change was observed, which accounted for a playable average of 34.5 fps for Windows as compared with 14.6 fps in case of Steam OS.

It is expected that in the coming months Valve should have an enough time in hand for improving the performance of the Steam OS, enabling Valve to keep their promise, which was made three years ago at the time of the launch of OS Machines.
