Three robots that specialize in reconnaissance, small explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and armed attack have debuted at the recently concluded 2015 World Robot Conference in Beijing, with the expectation that the three robots will be used to fight terrorism, according to a Wednesday report by Xinhua.

The three toy-sized robots have the capability to coordinate with each other on the field.

The reconnaissance robot specializes in field detection through its camera or sensor, according to Wu Yanpeng, an engineer at HIT Robot Group, the developer of the robots.

Wu said that when the scout detects or senses something suspicious, like poisonous gas or explosives, the information is transmitted back to headquarters for further analysis.

Based on the analysis of the reconnaissance robot, the EOD robot and the armed attack robot will be assigned their missions.

The EOD robot is designed to move and defuse bombs. If it is too complex for the robot's capabilities, bomb experts in the office have to come up with a proper solution, said Wu.

The EOD robot weighs about 12 kg, and it is specially designed for lone soldiers. It is made of aluminum alloy and industrial plastic, light enough to be carried on the back of a soldier.

The attack robot is designed to carry minor-caliber weapons, like recoilless rifles and grenade launchers. With the help of a sighting telescope and a trigger, the robot can hit targets from a long distance.

According to Chen Deqiang, sales manager of HIT Robot Group, the three robots can be purchased for 1.5 million yuan (around $230,000). The Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau is among the buyers.

Chen said that, besides anti-terror operations, the three robots can be used for fire fighting, public security, agriculture and forestry.
