Other reports claim that she has been offered $10 million for the role though there has been no official confirmation of the same from the actress' representatives.

The movie is going to be directed by Rupert Sanders, who is well-known for his directing skills on "Snow White and Huntsman." Bill Wheeler is writing the script and the producers are Avi Arad and Steven Paul with Mark Sourian as the executive producer.

The original series was created by Masamune Shirow in 1989 and it traces the life of Motoko Kusanagi, who is a member of the cyber-terrorist organization. The organization specializes in fighting and knocking down cycber-crimes. The series was such a super-hit that it was adapted into a film in the year 1995 and almost a decade later, it got another reprise with an animated sequel.

Besides "Ghost in the Shell," Johansson is also scheduled to appear in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and would also be an integral part of the comedy Hail Caesar in the coming year.
