As rumors emerged that Nexus 6P builder Huawei will try its hand on a vanilla Android tablet that on release date will likely be labelled as the Nexus 7 2016, another name popped up that in turn will be responsible for the Nexus 5X and 6P sequel. LG could be the chosen one to assemble Google's 2016 flagship smartphone, a new report said.
Being the OEM that produced the beloved Nexus 4, 5 and 5X, LG is a natural choice for Google and as reported by Geek Snack the South Korean device maker is on the short list of preferred business partners maintained by Google. Quoting a recent statement made by Android senior executive Dave Burke, the Nexus maker was impressed with LG's works, the blog report said.
Apparently Android and LG engineers have had a good working relationship in the past that continuing on the path is the default future route. Geek Snack is looking on two likely scenarios for what looked like as a flourishing Google-LG collaboration - LG will become a mainstay in the Nexus supply chain or the Korean company will become the exclusive and trusted Nexus partner.
Wherever this relationship could be heading, pure Android and Nexus fans will come out winners. For one, they can be assured that the next Nexus with LG handling the project is something to look forward to.
At the very least, "the next LG Nexus will be something rather different from what we are used to from the companies," Geek Snack said. That hints that the Nexus 5 concept, which inspired the Nexus 5X, will be a thing of the past.
And as mentioned by reports in the past days another likely Nexus holdover is Huawei, which is a development welcomed in the Android world. The Chinese device maker turned in a sterling work with the Nexus 6P, which likely convinced Google to award one of its Nexus 2016 projects to the company.
Huawei will specifically build the sequel to the HTC Nexus 9 - a 7-inch tablet that is being referred to for now as the Nexus 7 2016. Not much is known about the device save for the speculations that Huawei is tasked to put together a premium compact slate that is worthy of challenging the iPad Mini lineup of Apple.
Specs- and build-wise, the Nexus 7 2016 is seen to depart big time from the previous versions that were handled by Asus. And since the external and internal bumps are significant enough, it is expected that the Nexus 7 edition next year will touchdown with a higher sticker price compared to the 2012 and 2013 editions.
While Google is not confirming anything on the matter, Android watchers are saying that more details will show up in the months to come with a likely announcement for both the LG Nexus and the Nexus 7 2016 on the tech giant's annual I/O Developers Conference, usually staged May or June.
The LG Nexus and Nexus 7 2016 release date should be no later than September 2016 and both devices will be powered by the successor to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, known for now Android N.
