Chinese writer and blogger Han Han's bestselling novel "1988: I Want to Talk with the World" returns to the stage in Beijing and Shanghai on Jan. 20 to Feb. 15, the Global Times reported.
Supported by the Heart-Spoken, a rehabilitation center for autism sufferers, the full-length drama will be staged on Jan. 20 to Feb. 1 at the Gouhua Xianfeng Theater. After two days, the production is set to return to Shanghai where it debuted in 2012. The drama will be staged on Feb. 03 to 15 at the Shanghai Grand Theater.
Han collaborated with Heart-Spoken to support the center's crowdfunding campaign "Lonely Walk." For every 100 yuan ($16.1) or more, the donor will be admitted free of charge, the Global Times revealed.
In 2011, China has an estimated five million autistic children. Thousands of disabled children are abandoned each year and are moved to orphanages that are under-funded, the website Echinacities.com reported.
Meanwhile, Shao Zehui, director and author of the adaptation, pointed out that "1988: I Want to Talk with the World" criticizes reality as it evokes memory of the decade's end.
Han's novel tells the story of a road trip across the highways of China. The story focuses on a young man as he drives along the highways. Major events in China have been narrated as the young man shared his opinions on life and social reality, the website China.org.cn revealed.
According to the Global Times, Han's novel was published in 2010 which was first introduced through his now defunct magazine "Party."
It is notable that the production was featured at the 2012 Avignon Theater Festival, the 2013 Cross-Straits Little Theatre Festival and the 2014 Beijing Fringe Festival.
