The "Avatar" will have to wait longer as the movie's sequels will not be shown until 2017, confirmed James Cameron.

On Jan. 14, Wednesday, Cameron, the "Avatar" director, confirmed that the movie's sequels will not be shown anytime soon, revealing that the completion of the script requires more work and time, the Associated Press reported. Cameron's initial plan was for the production's first sequel to hit theaters in 2016, with the other two in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

According to Cameron, "We have realized that there is an unexpected layer of complexity, especially in getting our story work in a form of a saga across its three sequels. Most directors know that this isn't the case when our project is restricted to become a stand-alone film, only."

"We are writing three scripts, simultaneously," said the director. "We have decided to do it this way so we could track the development of the events across the three sequels."

While on tour with other well-renowned directors as Peter Jackson in New Zealand, he tells the press that aside from the complex screen-writing issues the project is experiencing, the rigorous design requirements are also putting too much burden on their shoulders.

Cameron explained to the reporters that their initial plan of releasing the first sequel in 2016 was too ambitious; however, he plans to complete all three screenplays before the month ends. In April 2012, he told Reddit that his scripts would be completed within a month and a half. Despite the delays, he is still being optimistic that the three "Avatar" sequels will be released in 2017, 2018 and 2019 respectively.
