At first look, the Avegant Glyph may look like a typical virtual reality headset. The Glyph is more of a personal theater headset rather than a virtual reality device. The Glyph has a rather limited field of view which is reported to be about 45 degrees, this is similar to watch a 65-inch TV or a large movie theater screen.

The Glyph also has several peripheral vision both above and below the display. This means that users will still have a clear view of the surrounding area. Since the Glyph is not a virtual reality device, it does not guarantee full immersive experience like that of the Oculus Rift or Gear VR.

Tech experts praised the Glyph's display resolution as well as image quality. Instead of relying on a screen or an LCD, the Avegant Glyph projects images straight into the user's eyes via two million micromirrors. This technology results in a very crisp and clear render of moving images.

According to Engadget, the Glyph can be used to watch 3D movies and with its partnership with Jaunt, the video headset is also capable of playing 360-degree videos.

According to Wired, the Avegant Glyph video headset costs $699.
