A series of new children's books with a topic centered on "love bridging the cross-Strait gap" has been released in Beijing on Jan. 8.
The series is penned by renowned Taiwanese novelist Guan Jiaqi.
One of Taiwan's most respected young adult writers, Guan Jiaqi is said to be unique in her style when it comes to children literature. She is lauded for her ability to write books that are from a child's perspective.
Her books have received numerous awards since 1992. She received the Golden Tripod Awards that year and won an award for best children's book in 1996 at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Her newly released books now are entitled "Voyage in Paradise," "The Secret of Ghost-Face City" and "A House for Wooden Dolls." All three books contain stories designed to inspire a child's imagination and creativity, as well as ingrain to them leadership skills at their early age. All books also include vivid and colorful pictures as well as simple words that children would love.
More than tapping into the children's imaginative and creative capacities, Guan created scenes using carefully chosen vocabulary and lush illustrations that could help children understand the cross-Strait cultural gap. Children can see the similarities and differences between simplified and traditional Chinese characters, for one. They could also see the differences in pronunciations.
The books also show the differences in the natural and social environments between Taiwan and mainland China. By seeing these similarities and differences, children at a young age can discern the uniqueness of the two regions.
The books also touch upon the deeper relations between China and Taiwan as the stories revolve around a blood relationship set in China's mainland and Taiwan.
