A British man who works in Tokyo is dressing up as a Christmas tree with decorations and lights, and running throughout the stress of Japan's capital city. His goal during the holiday season is to spread Christmas cheer in the areas of the city that are not lit up with colorful lights.

Joseph Tame runs a small video production and digital media business. He told CNN he likes to make people smile and laugh.

Tame designed the tree by wrapping two backpacks around an aluminum frame, and then inserting the branches of two artificial Christmas trees into them. He completed the costume using 99 batteries and 30 meters of wire, and spent 60 days, according to CNN.

Last week Tame started dressing up and walking around Tokyo's streets for many hours each session.  He described the reactions as "amazing."

Some people start laughing, while others scream in surprise. When others ask him what he is doing he explains that he is being a Christmas tree.

Many people even want to take photos with Tame. He described it is an excellent way to break social barriers in the city.

Tame also got a lot of attention in Japan by wearing windmills on his head and encouraging other runners. His costume and actions caused many people to smile.

The British man also plans to wear the costume on Christmas Day. Many Japanese work on December 25, but he hopes his costume can bring them some cheer.

Christmas is not an official holiday in Japan. It is mostly celebrated as a romantic special event for couples, according to Yahoo
