King Louie is awake and even speaking, according to his manager. When news of his slay attempt spread, fellow hip-hop performers aired their support for King Louie on Twitter. Among those who have tweeted are Pusha and Chance who wrote, "I believe in the power of prayer and I believe my brother Louie gone be ok. Send prayers to him in his battle."

It is not just his life that the rapper just battled for but also to end gun violence in the city. He was part of Chicago's "Put the Guns Down" project, an album that includes other rappers such as The Twilite Tone, Lil Herb and Common.

Besides that album, King Louie is also a part of "Send It Up" by Kanye West on Yeezus and "New Slaves," also by Kim Kardashian's partner, for which he was nominated for a Grammy in 2012. In the same year, Spin Magazine credited the rapper for making the city the hottest hip-hop scene in 2012.

Other than King Louie, there were four other shooting victims in the Second City on Wednesday. One of them, a 33-year-old man, died.  The other man who also succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds was a 39-year-old man shot in his home in the Austin neighborhood.
