Rumors are surfacing in the air that Microsoft is planning to release a Surface smartphone in 2016, which will be created by Panos Panay, and will be a premium device with metallic uni-body design being on the cards.

News is that Intel is developing a new chipset for this smartphone, which is anticipated to replace Lumia. Coming on the heels of several Lumia Windows 10 smartphones, after Microsoft acquired Nokia last year, speculation is high about Surface smartphone to be a completely new phone.

The new Microsoft smartphone flagship is said to sport the brand name of Surface, replacing the Lumia series. Although the release date is yet to be announced, it is anticipated that the release would be in 2016. Rumors about the Surface smartphone indicate that many tech watchers and analysts are convinced that the company is currently developing this said upcoming 2016 Microsoft flagship, especially after a news leak from WM PowerUser.

News about the features of this smartphone is that the rumored Surface phone is designed with a built-in beveled kickstand that would allow it to be put to either landscape or portrait mode.

Leaks from various sources suggest that the Surface phone could feature a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a pixel resolution of 1440 x 2560. The said smartphone will also be equipped with Micro SD card slot, 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage and 4 GB RAM. Microsoft may be introducing a new smartphone running on different mobile operating systems on a single device, and other extra-ordinary features for the upcoming Surface phone.
