Rockstar Games will not be releasing any games in this current fiscal year. The game developers instead will be announcing new game titles soon, which they will be developing for next year.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has just confirmed in an earnings call with Seeking Alpha that they will not be releasing any Rockstar game titles until April 2017, which will be the next fiscal year. For this current fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017, the game developers will be busy with different game projects only.
The game developers of "Red Dead Redemption" announced that they will be releasing information about the game titles they are currently working on, according to the official website of Take-Two Interactive. The game publisher's president Karl Slatoff said in a statement that the company is now working on a new intellectual property.
There have been several clues that could confirm that the game developers of Rockstar will not be releasing any games this year. It was hinted by the game publisher's CFO Lanie Goldstein that they were expecting a 75/25 revenue split between 2K games and Rockstar games. The other hint was that Zelnick said in a statement that they have announced their complete lineup for this current fiscal year, and there were no game titles from Rockstar.
Zelnick also said recently in a statement the game developers had some plans for E3 this year. In April, a rumored map for the sequel of the popular open-world cowboy video game was leaked. The details on the map suggested that the rumored new game's timeline happened before the original one.
In other news, the game publisher's key drivers of revenue for the fourth quarter included top-selling games like "XCOM 2," "Grand Theft Auto V," and "GTA Online." They have gotten a 12 percent increase with these games alone, which helped drive the growth of the company. Also the other contributors of the company's revenue were the digital contents like virtual currency, and DLC that many customers pay for additional gameplay.
