OnePlus X rumors: Mid-range phone still available in limited quantities

The OnePlus X is still available in limited quantities despite earlier belief that the device has been discontinued.

Despite earlier reports that customers may have seen the last of the OnePlus X, a recent update claims that the mid-range device is not completely off the shelf.

Word of the OnePlus X demise spread recently with no more stocks available from official stores. All this was further supported by customer claims that they were sent notices that inventories would no longer be replenished.

In fact, customers who have ordered and had not gotten their OnePlus X claim that they were offered a $10 coupon and refund according to users at the OnePlus Forums. Android Authority reported that OnePlus has rescinded rumors of the OnePlus X being discontinued. The hitch is that stocks will be coming, they will be in limited quantities. So depending on how one sees it, the OnePlus X is practically on life support right now.

Prior to these developments, it was believed that the OnePlus X had been permanently shelved. Most of this was tied up to the misfortunes of the OnePlus 3, the latest flagship that offered more problems than benefits. That included hardware issues and price hikes particularly for the customer in the UK. These led to speculations that OnePlus was trying to cut back its product line and resources.

The OnePlus X was seen as the likely choice to be killed. It is not considered flagship quality and considered more as an upgrade to the OnePlus One according to Slash Gear.

While there are no figures to support how the OnePlus X fared in the market, decreasing the production is a sign that it was not among the better performing devices of the company. The OnePlus One would have been a candidate since it has been out for quite some time though it continues to be a reliable device preferred by consumers.

Aside from the claimed minimal re-stocking, the OnePlus X is technically still around with vendors and unofficial stores still offering the device. Its price could be at a premium but the choice to buy it or not depends on the end user.

If not the OnePlus X, the OnePlus 2 could be a viable alternative. Compared to the OnePlus X, it is seen as the best device that OnePlus has to offer at this point according to GSM Arena.
