“The Winds of Winter” is the sixth installment of the of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” the basis of HBO’s popular series “Game of Thrones.”

Speculations are rife that author George R. R. Martin may not release any more sample chapters of the much-delayed book "Winds of Winter." This may be because the book is nearing completion and so, Martin wants to keep the mystery around the plot of the book intact.

The lack of any new chapters in the past few months led to speculations by the fans that the book is about to be launched. There has been no official word from Martin and the publishers regarding a possible release date for "Winds of Winter" so the air is thick with rumors.

Earlier in 2016, Martin released a few sample chapters from his upcoming book "Winds of Winter." The last chapter that he released was way back on May 10, 2016 and it was based on Princess Arianne Martell. Unfortunately, there is no mention of Martell in the TV adaptation "Game of Thrones" of the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire."

On the other hand, Martin wrote in NotABlog that, he had a very relaxed Christmas season despite the fact that the much-loved festival is usually a very stressful time for him. His favorite holidays are Halloween and Thanksgiving and he is not a very big fan of Christmas. He added that, "Christmas has always been too stressful, at least since I became an adult (a long long time ago). But this year's was relatively mellow. I spent it at home with Parris, friends, and cats, and a good time was had by all."

Hence, this candid journal entry led to speculations that Martin may be having a relaxed Christmas season because he has finished the book. This may also be one of the reasons as to why Martin has not released any new sample chapters lately.

Meanwhile, one of the reasons why the much-anticipated book is so delayed is because it is very lengthy. It is expected to be over 1,500 pages, according to Reddit. As "Winds of Winter" is the sequel for both "A Feast for Crows" and "A Dance with Dragons" so it is quite long.
