Sony has started rolling out the latest Android 7.0 Nougat firmware on its Xperia Z5 series.

Sony has started rolling out the latest Android 7.0 Nougat firmware on its Xperia Z5 series. Right now, Sony is also seeding Nougat for the Xperia Z3+ and Z3+ Dual with the build number 32.3.A.0.372.

The OTA update, which brings the five-month old release of the mobile OS, is currently live across several variants of the Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium, although users should expect more devices on the future.

After being certified by the cellular certification company PTCRB, the selected Xperia devices can start downloading the Android Nougat firmware, which will carry the build number version of 32.3.A.0.372 from 32.2.A.5.11, Xperia Blog reported. The said update will have a hefty download size of 1,288MB.

According to Android Police, the Android Nougat update will bring the stock OS improvements, such as multi-window support and expanded notification functionality. As stated in the software update listing, the multi-window support will enable users to multi-task easily by running two apps simultaneously, while double tapping to switch between open apps.

Sony is also promising a longer battery life with the new update, alongside an updated messaging option, which will make it possible for users to share videos and audios with a few taps. This improvement will make sharing more personal and convenient for Z5 users.

Other additions include the integration of a self-timer button in the front camera interface and the latest Xperia Home launcher that will offer a smarter and more personal interface through Google Now integration.

The said update can be viewed on the phone's software through a notification. Before installing the Nougat update, users should back-up their data first in case of sudden errors. Because of the large file download, users should make sure their battery is fully charged and their phone is connected to a stable Internet connection. Once the firmware is installed, users cannot go back to the older Android versions.

On another note, with just a day after Sony Mobile announced its Android Nougat update on the Z5 family, the new OS moved to the Z3 devices with the Xperia Z3+ and Z3+ Dual getting the same firmware build.

A number of Sony handsets were already running steadily with the Android Nougat firmware including the Xperia X Performance and Xperia XZ, Xperia X, Xperia X Dual, and Xperia X Compact.
