"Titanic" actor Bill Paxton is now in talks to play the legal eagle Jack Thompson.
Paxton is in a deal to join "Harry Potter" actor Daniel Radcliffe in an Owen Harris drama film "Grand Theft Auto," as per The Hollywood Reporter.
The film chronicles the conflict between the creator of "Grand Theft Auto" and a Miami public prosecutor whose desire to ban video game violence.
Paxton will play the role of Jack Thompson, an activist lawyer who pounced on "Grand Theft Auto," "Houser" and "Rockstar" games. Prior to eyeing on video games, Thompson is known for vilifying media firms that uphold rap and sex in broadcasting. His unfitting behavior and nonconformist system resulted to his dismissal in 2008.
The "Aliens" actor said that Thompson is "too emotionally caught up" in prosecuting the violence in media, as per Deadline.
According to Paxton, Thompson was able to take on two live crew and kick Howard Stern off the radio. He also write letters containing his despise to those he was contesting and he even continued to appear on talk shows despite of getting a suppression order from the government.
"The Woman in Black" actor Radcliffe will play the role of Sam Houser, who is the British president and co-founder of Rockstar Games. It is the company governing games such as "Grand Theft Auto," "Max Payne," and "Red Dead." House is known to raise "Grand Theft Auto" as one of the largest franchises in the realm of gaming.
Paxton will also be seen in his other projects this year, such as "Pixies" and "Term Life." There are no further updates with regard to who the other cast members are.
Born in Forth Worth, Texas, the actor is known for his roles in films such as "Aliens" (1986), "Apollo 13" (1995), "Titanic" (1997), and "Edge of Tomorrow" (2014).
"Misfits" and "Black Mirror" director Harris is set to pilot the film, with Jim Spencer and Mark Hedgecoe as his co-producers. James Wood is on board to pen the film script.
The film, which is based on a book entitled "Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto" by David Kushner, is set to commence its filming on Apr. 20.
Meanwhile, fans have to wait for further announcement regarding further plot details, additional cast members, and release date.
