Motorola is consistently making efforts to update its smartphone devices to the latest Android firmware. Recently, it rolled out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto X (2013), Moto X (2014), Moto G (2013) and Moto G (2014) models. Even the low-end Motorola Moto E (2015) users who purchased their devices through carriers like U.S. Cellular and Verizon are now receiving the firmware update.

Motorola began with 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto E (Gen 2) in May, when the U.S. Cellular users of started receiving the update. The update installs the software version LPI23.29-15.

Also, Verizon users are receiving software version 23.11.17 that updates the Moto E (Gen 2) devices with Android 5.1 Lollipop. In order for users to download and install the upgrade, users are needed to connect to Wi-Fi network.

The Android 5.1 introduces new icons to the Quick Settings, which include some attractive spinning Auto Rotate icon. Part of the updates also features the support for high definition calls as well as capabilities of dual SIM.

An added security feature that is introduced by the new Android upgrade is that it keeps a stolen or lost phone unlocked until the user signs in using Google account credentials. Even when a factory reset is performed, it won't unlock the device until the Google account credentials are entered.

Meanwhile, Motorola Droid Turbo phablet users are still waiting to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update. In May, Jose Arturo, an engineer with Verizon had hinted that the update would be available by the middle of this month and another report had suggested that the Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA update would arrive by June 10.  However, it has not come true.

Moreover, reports reveal that arrival of the update has been delayed as developers are further testing the update. As of this writing, Droid Turbo users are still stuck with Android 4.4.4 KitKat. One good news for Droid Turbo users is that it the devices won't receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. However, Droid Turbo users will directly receive the 5.1 Lollipop update.
