Moto X 2013 and 2014 is also set to receive the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS before getting the Android M Marshmallow slated for release next week, according to reports.

After reports about Moto G 2013 and 2014 will receive Android 5.1.1, it is speculated that Motorola is prepping for the same update for Moto X 2013 and 2014 to be released in December or January 2016.

Meanwhile, a number of users claimed to have received the soak test that is rolling out in two parts, with the second part being the more substantial 712MB file that bumps the phone to Android 5.1. The final system version is 222.26.7, according to Droid-Life.

Up to now, there is no concrete information as to when the OS update will be rolled out to the general public. However, the report added that if the test is successful, there is a big chance that the software will arrive this week.

On the other hand, the two generations of Moto X will also receive Android M Marshmallow. The operating system will reportedly debut on Sept. 29 alongside Google Nexus 5X and 6P. However, the Moto X smartphones will be at the end of the line of Motorola handsets to receive the Android M since Moto X Style and Moto X Pure Edition will be the first among the first smartphones to be updated.

Motorola, being a former mobile division of Google, has a good reputation for being one of the early adopters of the latest update as soon as it gets the Android OS source code. The reason why some handsets experience delay is the fact that carriers have to roll out the OS upgrade to the handsets.
