Apple Releases OS X El Capitan; Upgrades Include Split View, Notes, Safari 9, Spotlight Search

Tech giant Apple announced at the iPhone event on Sept. 9 that the OS X El Capitan will be available for download on Sept. 30. Apple claim that the new version of OS X focused mainly on performance enhancement and only a handful of new features.

OS X 10.11 El Capitan is the successor of Yosemite. According to Mac World, the operating system was previewed during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8. Since it was announced, the operating system went through eight beta preview and through this, people already have a fair idea of what to expect.

First off is the upgrade for Spotlight Search. The system search function can now be freely resized and repositioned in order to match its user's preference. Apple also upgrade the functions library of possible search terms which now includes data like weather, sports scores and even videos from Vimeo and YouTube.

Apple also made significant improvements for the Notes feature. Just like the Notes upgrade made on the iOS 9, the OS X version now also allow users to add maps, embed web link previews and checklists. One of the upgrade is the integration of Notes to use iCloud Drive. However, when users decide to integrate iCloud Drive to Notes, they are required to synch OS X El Capitan with iOS 9.

The El Capitan upgrade also includes Safari version 9 browser. The Safari 9 browser is already available in Yosemite but the new operating system includes new features. One of the features include is the ability to mute sound on a specific tab. Safari will show a small speaker icon on a tab that is outputting sound and users can click the icon to mute that tab alone. Safari 9 also includes Pinned Tabs which allow users to put any website permanently in the URL bar.

According to 9to5 Mac, Apple also included that Full Screen Split View on the latest version of OS X. this allow users to manipulate two different window  at the same time which should help increase their efficiency.
