Karen Fukuhara is Katana in David Ayer's "Suicide Squad."

Joel Kinnaman has revealed the major role of Karen Fukuhara in David Ayer's forthcoming DC Comics film "Suicide Squad."

Kinnaman is playing Rick Flag, the leader of the titular team in Ayer's upcoming film. In his interview with Empire Magazine (via Comic Book), Kinnaman said that Katana had got his back, suggesting that the swordswoman would protect him when they were outside. The actor had also advised not getting killed by the deadly Suicide Squad member, as her sword would trap the soul of its victims.

With the alter ego Tats Yamashiro, Katana is a skilled martial artist and master swordsman who uses the iconic Soultaker in the comics. The blade of the sword takes its victims' souls, which include her husband Maseo Yamashiro. She joined the Suicide Squad to help the team stop the shipment of weapons from being purchased by the Yakuza.

Interestingly, Katana is also able to communicate with the souls she has captured. According to Cinema Blend, this element of the film is set to be witnessed by fans in Ayer's upcoming film and it is assumed to establish another layer of magic and mysticism to DC's Extended Universe. However, whether Katana's inclusion in the team was voluntary or forced is yet to be revealed.

Along with Kinnaman and Fukuhara , "Suicide Squad" also stars Viola Davis, Common, Scott Eastwood, Jay Hernandez, Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Adam Beach, Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie, among others.

Ayer's "Suicide Squad" is set premiere in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016. Watch the official "Suicide Squad" Comic-Con trailer here:
