The video, shared online, showed a 15-year-old schoolgirl forcibly stripped of her clothes and badly beaten by female gang members. The incident happened in Lingao, Hainan Province. An onlooker who witnessed what happened filmed the incident, but it sparked a debate if people who see such an incident should film an assault or step in and prevent the beating, reported Daily Mail.

According to People's Daily Online, the Lingao Police is probing the incident as well as the cyber police crime department.

At one point, the victim attempted to escape the gang by fleeing along the rural road, but the bullies ran after her and caught the teen. Then they resumed kicking and beating her. During the second round of beating, another group of female students in school uniform arrived and just watch the assault.

The 78-second video clip, posted on iqiyi.com, has so far garnered about 4.4 million hits since it was posted on Jan. 17. Now, Chinese netizens are debating online about teen violence.

One netizen cited on Facebook a similar incident in the U.S. when three female students were sentenced to prison terms for mauling another female student out of jealousy. Yunlei Gao pointed out, "Chinese overseas students did the same thing in the USA and they ended up being put in jail from two to eight year. Why do we not do the same thing to these rude and shameless teenagers in our country?"

A survey of more than 8,000 middle school Chinese students from four cities in Guangdong Province found that almost 21 percent were involved in bullying behavior, 20 percent were bullying victims, 9 percent were bullies and almost 7 percent were both bullies and victims, reported Nobullying.com.
