Another international player will participate in the Chinese Super League after Guangzhou Evergrande FC signed Jackson Martinez of Atletico Madrid.

Martinez is the latest player to bring his talents to China, following the likes of Ramires, Fredy Guarin, and Gervinho. The 29-year-old forward joins Guangzhou in a €42 million transfer deal, with Atletico Madrid making a €7 million profit out of the Colombian forward.

It was the most expensive signing so far for the Chinese Super League, smashing Jiangsu Suning's £21 million signing of Chelsea midfielder Ramires.

According to AS, a media outlet in Madrid, Martinez did not attend the club's training session on Monday due to "personal reasons with permission of the club." The report also revealed that that day, Martinez's agent Jorge Mendes began negotiating deals for the Colombian international with Guangzhou.

Martinez immediately flew to Dubai to join his former Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, who now manages Guangzhou, and Brazilian international Paulinho, as well as new teammates, on their winter training camp after successfully completing a medical and agreeing to terms, reports Goal.

Martinez only scored two goals in 15 La Liga appearances and has struggled since his €35 million move to Vicente Calderon in July, but his disappointing display at Atletico is far from his impressive outputs in his former club Porto, where he racked up a total of 92 goals in 123 appearances in all competitions in Portugal.

According to the Independent, Martinez was supposed to be involved in a deal that would send him to Premier League giant Chelsea, but the Pensioners turned down the proposed swap of Martinez for Diego Costa.

"Chelsea are believed to have turned down the cash-plus-player offer immediately, however, and remain insistent Costa is going nowhere - especially at such short notice," the report stated.

China's transfer window remains open until Feb. 26, which could mean more deals are expected to come for big-spending Chinese clubs.
