"Mr. Robot" season 2 slated to premiere this summer will see the return of Whiterose (B.D. Wong). Season 1 wrapped up with many questions, although some details were revealed at the last minute.
In an extra scene aired after the credits ended in the final episode of season 1, Whiterose attended E Corp. CEO Philip Price's (Michael Cristofer) dinner party. At the party, Whiterose did not look like the person Elliot (Rami Malek) met in the previous episode.
Whiterose's appearance in episode finale raised some questions concerning the character and his relevance to the plot of the show. Viewers wondered why he helped Elliot execute the hack, and whatever he does for E Corp.
Sam Esmail, the series co-creator, teased that some of the questions will get answers in season 2. He said that Wong would come back as Whiterose, although he will not be a central character.
In an interview with TV Insider, Esmail said, "He was so amazing in the first season, I would be stupid not to use him more this season. But I do have to use him sparingly because he's got such a great mystery around him."
Meanwhile, the mystery surrounding Whiterose is very large to the extent that Wong does not know much about the character and his intentions.
"What Sam is starting is some kind of an exploration of an even deeper understanding of that identity," Wong told Vulture.
Wong added, "There is some reason why Whiterose is the creature that she is. There is a reason none of us yet know. Sam probably does. And that reason would have to do with the understanding of self-identity, or someone else's perception of someone's identity."
The actor as well pointed out that it was hard to play the character at first because he does not know much about it. However, it would be easier should he come back to the show since he and the production have already created "an aesthetic for that character."
