After playing John Fitzgerald in the Leonardo DiCaprio starrer "The Revenant," Tom Hardy is set to star in "Taboo." Recently, Hardy was spotted naked while filming the eight-part drama mini-series, which is set to premiere this summer on FX in the United States and on BBC in the United Kingdom.
Earlier this month, Hardy was in Essex, England, to film a river scene for "Taboo." He was photographed by paparazzi as he got naked before jumping into a freezing cold river out of his canoe, New York Daily News reported.
In the mini-series, which is set in 1813, Hardy plays a daring adventurer named James Keziah Delaney. With a mission to seek revenge for his father's death, the character returns from Africa to Britain.
This is not the first time Hardy had a full frontal nudity. In 2008, he stripped down in Nicolas Winding Refn's 2008 drama film titled "Bronson," which also starred Kelly Adams, Matt King, Andrew Forbes, Luing Andrews, Katy Barker, Amanda Burton, Paul Devenport and Paul Donnelly, among others.
In 2011, Greg Williams' short film "Sergeant Slaughter, My Big Brother" also featured Hardy's frontal nudity. His co-stars in the film include Sean Teale, Nathaniel Parker, Gillian Bevan and Ben Macleod.
Ridley Scott, who will executive produce the mini-series with Hardy, told Variety that the character is "a deeply flawed and deeply troubled human-being." The character will be caught in the middle of Britain and America as two warring nations with his refusal to sell his family business to the East India Company.
Meanwhile, Hardy was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards 2016 for his performance in "The Revenant." The film is also nominated for Best Picture along with "Spotlight," "Room," "The Martian," "Brooklyn," "Bridge of Spies," "The Big Short" and "Mad Max: Fury Road," which also starred Hardy.
In addition, DiCaprio is nominated for Best Actor for his starring role in "The Revenant." He will go against "Trumbo" actor Bryan Cranston, "The Martian" actor Matt Damon, "Steve Jobs" actor Michael Fassbender and "The Danish Girl" actor Eddie Redmayne.
This is Hardy's first Oscar nomination while it is the fifth nomination for DiCaprio. The latter was previously nominated for his roles in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," "The Aviator," "Blood Diamond" and "The Wolf of Wall Street" but he has yet to win an Oscar award.
