There is a kind of Norma that Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) imagines when he blacks out. According to Farmiga, this is one of the things they are starting to explore recently.
"We're really just starting to explore that," Entertainment Weekly quoted Farmiga as saying. "This is an introduction to a new character that I'm taking on."
"She is a playground," Farmiga said of Norma Bates. She added that her character is "always rooted in striving for integrity" and "a little more devilish."
"Bates Motel" is developed by Anthony Cipriano, Kerry Ehrin and Carlton Cuse. Joining Farmiga and Highmore in the main cast are Max Thieriot at Dylan Massett, Olivia Cooke as Emma Decody, Kenny Johnson as Caleb Calhoun and Nestor Carbonell as Sheriff Alex Romero.
Aired on May 11, 2015, the "Bates Motel" Season 3 finale showed Norma pushed to the breaking point because of Norman's issues. Norma told met with an asylum administrator in hopes to admit Norman, who had plans of leaving town with Bradley Martin (Nicola Peltz).
Also, fearful of her body rejecting her lung transplant and dying, Emma disappeared but Dylan found her at the cabin. On the other hand, Romero shot Bob Paris (Kevin Rahm) at the marina after calling him to warn him about the DEA's plans to arrest him at his house.
Aside from reprising her role as Norma in the A&E series, Farmiga is also reprising her role as Lorraine Warren in "The Conjuring 2." Directed by James Wan, the horror sequel is set to hit theaters on June 10.
Among Farmiga's "The Conjuring 2" co-star is "Moone Boy" actor Simon Delaney and "Orphan Black" actress Maria Doyle Kennedy. Recently, Delaney revealed that he is doing most of his scenes with Kennedy in the horror sequel.
"We starred in an Irish movie years ago," Irish Mirror quoted Delaney as saying. "But for 'The Conjuring 2,' we've a lot of scenes together (and) it was great to see a friendly face over in L.A."
