"Bones," Fox's longest running TV series is concluding after more than a decade of broadcast. The crime procedural drama is now preparing for its final season which is expected to air in the last quarter of 2016 until early 2017.
The show is currently on hiatus and still has to broadcast the finale for season 11. But even before this chapter ends, Fox TV network already renewed the show's contract for another season which would be the twelfth and last season.
Of course, the original cast members, David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel will have to return to reprise their roles as the lead characters - FBI agent Seeley Booth and Dr. Temperance Brennan, respectively. Actors Michael Peterson and Jonathan Collier are likely to be on the grand finale as well.
Regarding the final run of the show, the network's CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman said in a statement on Fox, "Bones has been part of the fabric of our network and studio for over a decade, and during that time it has attracted one of the most devoted fan bases we've ever seen."
They added that they will do their best to make sure that the last 12 episodes will be memorable to fans, "So it was extremely important to us and to Hart (Hanson), the producers and the cast that we send the show off in a way that gives those loyal fans a meaningful and satisfying conclusion."
Then again, the final season will be shorter as it will only have 12 episodes compared to the usual 22. Still, this will bring up the "Bones" episodes count to 246, the highest series tally in the history of Fox TV broadcasting, TV Line reported.
The announcement of the renewal drew a lot of positive feedback not just from the fans but from the drama's actors as well. On her Twitter account, Deschanel was one of the first who expressed excitement in the upcoming farewell chapter.
"Bones" is set to return for the continuation of season 11 on April 14. It will open with episode 12 where Jack Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) will be shown having a hard time accepting that he is now paralyzed after his spinal cord was damaged due to bomb explosion.
