Manchester United has long been linked to Real Madrid football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and the Red Devils may finally have the chance to swoop the Portuguese this summer.
According to the Sunday Express' Neil Fissler, United are ready to acquire Ronaldo this summer for a sensational return at Old Trafford.
"Ronaldo, 31, seems to be on his way out of Real Madrid at the end of the season and could be on his way back to Manchester," Fissler noted.
"Real boss Zinedine Zidane is ready to build a side around Welsh superstar Gareth Bale - and that means ditching older players like Ronaldo."
Ronaldo would be welcomed with open arms in United, with the Premier League side's boardroom Alex Ferguson and rumored upcoming manager Jose Mourinho considered as major allies to the Portuguese football star.
Earlier this month, United were on alert after Ronaldo and teammate Sergio Ramos reportedly handed out transfer requests to Real, according to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito.
The report, which was noted by several media outlets, claimed that Ronaldo and Ramos had spoken to Real's president Florentino Perez about a possible transfer following the La Liga side's 1-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid last month.
Reports from Spanish football gossip site Fichajes, which was translated by Yahoo Sports UK, noted that United are willing to offer at least £150 million for the Real duo.
Ronaldo has been United's wish list in the past seasons, but the Spanish giants were able to keep hold of the 31-year-old footballer at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. He scored 118 goals in 292 games for United before making a £80 million transfer to Real in the summer of 2009.
Last month, Ronaldo said he plans to see out his contract with Real, which would see him play with the Spanish club until 2018.
"I want to stay here two more years. The two years I'm talking about take me to the end of my contract," Ronaldo said as quoted by Spanish newspaper AS. "And the future, we'll see."
But with rumors about a possible exit this summer, there is a chance fans would see Ronaldo playing once again in the English Premier League.
