Just recently, Google introduced the Android developer preview of Android N which according to its recent announcements will be available on selected Nexus devices.
The devices include Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. Unfortunately, Nexus 5 will not be included and so loyal users and fans will have to swallow the hard truth.
The device's exclusion follows the hint that Google has already adopted the plan of not including the model in the Android N update, Tech Radar reported. One of the rumored reasons is because it is one of the oldest Nexus devices that are still in the market. Also, according to reports emanating from several sources, Google Nexus 5 may be one of Google's powerful smartphones but still, it does not run on android N smoothly.
Nevertheless, Nexus 5 enthusiasts have a glimmer of hope following a commentary that claims that the company is now testing it with the new OS. According to The Bleg, it seems that the firm has decided to start testing the Android N preview on variants of the Nexus 7 as well as Nexus 5. Google's Git repositories also point out that Nexus 7 in particular has already gone through the "Hammerhead" testing code name which is formally known as the LG Nexus 5 code.
Although the device is already three years old, a closer look at its features suggests that it can be a candidate of running on Android N. The Nexus 5 runs on a 2.3 Hz Quad core Snapdragon 800 CPU along with an Adreno 330 GPU. It also has 2GB of RAM hinting that the device may handle the OS after all.
However, the possibility of Android N landing on Nexus 5 and 7 is not guaranteed to warrant conclusions. For that reason, users of these devices should not expect much from the ongoing testing.
Meanwhile, Google has gone ahead to reveal that the firmware is now ready for installation on Google Pixel C, Nexus Player, Nexus 5x, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9, and the preview build is now easier to install compared to the previous previews.
