Desen International Media, a film production company based in Beijing, is set to remake the 2006 Fox hit comedy-drama "The Devil Wears Prada," as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The original film, directed by David Frankel, starred Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs, an aspiring journalist who lands a job as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, a powerful editor of a fashion magazine.

The Chinese-language version of the film plans to transfer the setting from New York to Shanghai.

Fox is currently not involved in the remake by Desen. The company is not considering "The Devil Wears Prada" as one of its new Chinese- language remakes that it plans to produce through a partnership between Fox International Productions and Fox Networks Group Asia, according to a studio insider.

"'The Devil Wears Prada' is not among the list of potential remakes we're planning for the new collaboration," said the studio insider.

Desen, who has confirmed the project, has also said that Fox will not be involved in their remake of the film. The company also said that it cannot reveal yet whether or not it has obtained the movie rights to the original Lauren Weisberger novel.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), China's censorship bureau, has already approved the project for production.

Desen was founded by renowned film producer Ann An in 2006. It previously co-produced films like "Ip Man 2" and "14 Blades," both starring Donnie Yen.

"The Devil Wears Prada" was released in China in Feb. 2007, eight months after theaters in the United States stopped screening it. The film was warmly accepted by Chinese audiences, especially in major cities, with corporations even hosting screenings for the film for March 8 Women's Day parties.

The novel was also translated into Chinese, which became a bestseller in China.
