Time Magazine will once again name this year's 100 most influential people in the world. K-pop stars Big Bang and 2NE1's Chaelin Lee, a.k.a CL, has been nominated for the said prestigious recognition.
The search for the "Most Influential People of 2016" begins, as Time recently revealed the final lists of the candidates. Among the top 127 names, Big Band and CL were the only k-pop stars to be included. The live voting is currently taking place on Time's official website.
This year apparently marks the second year in a row of the 25-year-old musical artist and a fierce 2NE1 leader, CL, to be on the list. The magazine noted CL's steps as a group leader to the front-row presence at fashion shows and solo artists with songs such as "Doctor Pepper" and "Hello Bitches."
Due to its successful world tours in the previous years, the South Korean boy band, Big Bang, rose to candidacy. Time Magazine noted that the group was being hailed as "the biggest boy band in the word."
Time 100 is the magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The official lists were determined by the TIME editors based on the online poll's result.
As of this writing, CL tied for the 22nd spot alongside other candidates, including Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence. Meanwhile, Big Bang made it to the fourth spot with 1.9 percent votes.
Big band and CL will follow other big names in the Korean music industry such as Jung Ji-Hoon aka Rain, who made it on the Time 100 list in 2006, and 2011 and PSY, who was nominated in 2013. However, both Rain and PSY did not make it to the final list, The Asia One reported.
Other figures nominees include U.S President Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders, Aung San Suu Kyi, Lady Gaga, Malala Yousafzai, and the 226th Pope Francis. The mentioned names are also included in the top 10 of the ongoing online poll.
Voting finally closes at 11:59 p.m. EST on April 10, where the winner of the reader poll will eventually be announced four days after, April 14. This year's official TIME 100 list will be announced on April 21.
