Alibaba, China's largest internet chain, has invested $10 million to Santa Monica based gaming company Ouya. The internet giant's investment will help to boost the presence of Ouya in the Asian gaming market especially in China and India, according to LA Times.
Ouya is an Android gaming console that started little on Kickstarter turned out to be a huge success to the consumers in 2014. The gaming console maker's current software and game line-up made a hit of around 1,000 milestones in November. Alibaba's investment is still based in the United States soil and does not mean that the game console maker will fly off to China.
Report says that the main goal of the huge investment is to integrate Ouya's top selling game boxes to that of Alibaba's own set-top boxes. The agreement is yet to reach a final decision soon, however, the big financial investment has already been given sometime the previous month, The Verge reported.
Ouya's presence in the US gaming market has been over shadowed by the bigger company like Sony and Microsoft who have been on the top of their game for a long time. The KickStarter campaign earned around $1 million in a matter of hours was quickly forgotten as soon as the latest PlayStation 4 and Xbox One came out of the market. Ouya's fate might get sealed by Amazon's Fire TV set-up box for Android gaming, and it is good for watching movies too, to add to that, a rate of $99 price point is a hard deal to compete with.
Ouya found a bigger opportunity overseas; it is no big deal to let a foreign company handle its hardware. The Santa Monica based company had already partnered with Xiaomi and MadCatz in China to create its gaming devices for Ouya.
