The publisher of "Attack on Titan," Kodansha, has mostly been a house to reprint volumes from their renowned parent company. Over the Easter weekend, Comic book and sci-fi event WonderCon happened at the Los Angeles Convention Center and Kodansha to promote "Attack on Titan Anthology" of western artists.
Based on the original series by Hajime Isayama, the anthology brings stories of the Titan universe as told by Western artists such as Gail Simone, Scott Snyder, Kevin Wada, Erin Hicks, Eva Dorkin, Kate Leth, Paolo Rivera, and the current "Batgirl" team of Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, and Babs Tarr, according to Crunchyroll. Representatives from the publisher shared a first look of the hardcover volume and the entire Kodansha line.
Ben Applegate, the director of publishing, lead the proceedings in conjunction with co-editor Jeanine Schaefer and write Jody Houser, who scripted Valiant's "Faith" and the "Orphan Black" series. According to Comic Book, the panel began with a rundown of upcoming manga from Kodansha, highlighting "Fruits Basket" that tells the story of fated love between a girl and a boy who turns into a wolf.
Furthermore, there is the popular "Parasyte," which has its own show on Toonami. The anthology has the new volume "Neo Parasyte F" as a representation of the 90s anthology, which blends shoujo manga and horror narratives. On the other hand, there is "the Ghost and the Lady," a classic two-volume manga that tell another horror story featuring a fictional Florence Nightingale.
Apart from Kodansha giving trading cards outlining the work from inside the anthology, Applegate as well displayed a two-page spread from Michael Avon Oeming's narrative in the manga. The story concentrates on many new characters to the world, including famous characters like Levi.
Oeming's, the story from the anthology, will feature in the Free Comic Book Day preview of the project. It is important to note that the story from the "Batgirl" team happens in a fan-favorite destination - the lobby of the hotel where Atlanta's Dragon*Con takes place. The other side of the spectrum has a horrifying tale from brothers Asaf Hanuka and Tomer.
The anthology represents 16 narratives with many diverse pinups. Watch the sneak peek below for more information.
