From their own video game, Valve gets a game character to introduce HTC Vive owners to the SteamVR platform. The character came from the game developer's puzzle game "Portal."
The virtual reality headset made by HTC will have Valve's SteamVR software to power the device up. Venture Beat reported. To make the owners get familiar with the software, the game developer has added a tutorial to show people how to navigate through a room-scale VR environment to its bundle of tools for its VR interface.
Valve uses one of the familiar spherical robots from the "Portal" game, which is named in the tutorial as the "Virtual Reality Assistance and Education Core" and guides the user through every step. Users who have experienced the tutorial find the character funny and easy to understand which makes the whole tutorial experience worthwhile to go through.
The HTC Vive pre-orders started on Feb. 29 and for a limited time, the early buyers will get the "Job Simulator" and "Fantastic Contraption" VR games as a bundle for the device, according to VG247. The whole virtual reality headset has a price of $799 and will be available in the market on April 5.
Among the three VR headsets introduced so far in the market currently, HTC's VR headset is the second of the three devices to be priced. While it is indeed expensive, the price is worth the number of items inside the retail package which will be launched this coming April.
The whole package has a lot of items inside, but the important ones are the Vive headset, two wireless controllers, and the Lighthouse sensors which allow the user to experience room-scale VR. The other items included are adapters, cables, headset, a face cushion, documentation and many more. All in all there are 16 items inside the HTC Vive box.
Reviewers recently have tried out the VR headset during an event held recently and they were impressed with its technology. They also noted some issues like some games did not synch with the VR headset properly, the package has too many items, and the price which was a bit expensive.
