Although South Korean actor Song Joong-ki, currently on an Asian tour to promote “Descendants of the Star,” has more than 100 fan pages, he does not own any personal Instagram, Twitter or Facebook account.
In Twitter, he is trending with the hashtags #Descendantsofthesun, #KangMoyeon and #Yoosijin, and has his own emoji, but he has no social media accounts, reported ATimes. Fans are clamoring for Song to be in any of the three portals so they could either “friend” or “follow” him. If he does, the actor would surely get millions of followers or friends in just a few days.
However, unlike many young people, he is not so much into gadgets. “I do not know the technology altogether. I have no social media because I’m not smart with it at all. I do not know how to use it,” Soompi quoted the actor.
An Indian fan, Susmita Dey, sums up the sentiments of many followers of the actor. She explained, “We know the Yoo Si Jin side of him. We would love to know the real Song Joong-ki. We want to know how he is and what he thinks. It would be fun if he gets active on social media.”
Despite his official absence from social media, Song’s popularity continues to soar, making him now the most popular actor in China. In South Korea, merchants printed his image on joss papers which are being sold as part of family offerings to their dead relatives in time for the country’s tomb-sweeping festival, reported Asia One.
His photo, dressed as Army officer Yoo Si Jin, appears on the 50,000 won notes, the highest value of paper bills in South Korea. A Weibo user pointed out that the actor’s name has a resemblance to the Chinese word for “papers for the departed.”
But the female followers of Song are not happy with the use of his image on the joss paper. One of his fans said the designer of the ghost money have gone overboard.
