Nintendo announced the arrival of their upcoming gaming platform, the Nintendo NX, in March 2015; however, since then, details surrounding the platform have been scarce. Now, speculations about the specs and possible release date for the platform has made its way online. By all accounts, the Nintendo NX console would be the company's most revolutionary innovation since their Nintendo 64, and it may just be released sooner than expected.
According to CNET, there is a possibility that the Japanese electronics company would unveil Nintendo NX during E3. Whether it is this year's E3 or E3 2017, the publication remains unsure. Still, reports claims that Nintendo may launch an NX handheld gadget during E3 2016. Subsequently, the company is expected to follow-up the NX handset release with an NX console come 2017.
As per the specifications, it is rumored that the NX would come with a new game controller. Late 2015, reports surfaced that Nintendo employees have filed a patent for new gaming controls. The details surrounding the controller remain unclear; however, speculations claim that the controller might be equipped with a screen that displays whatever is being shown on a television screen.
Not unlike the specifications and release date, confirmation surrounding Nintendo NX's pricing has been elusive. Though Nintendo released the DS and Wii with very competitive pricing at $150 and $250 respectively, chances are the new platform would be sold at similar prices.
The arrival of the Nintendo NX was announced by the company's chief executive Sotoru Iwata in March 2015, while in December 2015, Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima spoke to Time about the latest development surrounding their upcoming Nintendo NX console. While remaining mum on the details of the platform, Kimishima revealed that the NX would be an entirely new experience for Nintendo enthusiasts. He explained that the company is not interested in creating a different version of Wii or Wii U, and the NX would be entirely different from Nintendo's previous offerings.
"NX [the codename for Nintendo's next game system] is in development. [It is the] next step in our dedicated device strategy, the core and primary focus of our business. As far as NX goes, I've said it's different and obviously a new experience," explained by Kimishima.
