Li Bingbing will join the cast of upcoming Australian picture "Nest," along with Kellan Lutz ("Expendables 3," "The Twilight Saga"), Kelsey Grammer ("Entourage," "Transformers," "The Simpsons") and Stef Dawson ("The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"). Chinese actor Wu Chun will also be part of the film.
Kimble Rendall is set to direct "Nest," which is said to be the biggest production between China and Australia to date. It has earned funding from Screen Australia and Screen Queensland, Variety reported.
The story is about "a team of scientists who, while making the discovery of the century, lose a colleague in an ancient labyrinth. The group must battle their way through a swarm of deadly, man-eating funnel Web spiders and discover the secret behind the insects' power and unusual intelligence," as told by Variety.
Aside from playing one of the lead roles in the movie, Li will also be a co-producer, along with Gary Hamilton, Ying Ye, Mark Lazarus and Serena Deng. Production will be under Nest Holdings in cooperation with Beijing-based Loongs United Investment, which distributed the action movie "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit."
The 43-year-old star has been grabbing the international limelight through several films, such as "Transformers: Age of Extinction" and "Resident Evil: Retribution." Just last year, Li made headlines with her role in "Realm," a superhero movie from Stan Lee Global Entertainment and Fundamental Films.
Li's "Realm" character is Stan Lee Entertainment's first female Asian superhero, according to an NBC News report.
Her most recent movie, "Zhongkui: Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal," scooped up $80 million in China in 2015, according to a news bit on ComingSoon.net.
Li, one of China's most followed celebrities today, has a long list of achievements, including a Best Actress trophy for her debut film "Seventeen Years" in 1999 and a recognition as one of the "Top Ten TV Actors/Actresses in China" in 2001.
